Two retrievers and a pair of boots . Every trail worth walking.
This started the way most good things do muddy boots, an unplanned detour, and two dogs who didn’t care that we’d taken a wrong turn.
Welcome to Tails Trails Treks
Two retrievers. One mission. Every trail worth walking.
This started the way most good things do muddy boots, an unplanned detour, and two dogs who didn’t care that we’d taken a wrong turn.
I was standing on a hillside somewhere in Carlow, rain sideways, map useless, Willow chest-deep in a stream she had no intention of leaving, and Bella doing what Bella always does sitting beside me, watching the chaos with the quiet dignity of a dog who’s seen it all before. And I remember thinking: this is the best day I’ve had in months.
That feeling wind in your face, dog at your side, nowhere to be except exactly where you are that’s what Tails Trails Treks is about. Not in some polished, Instagram-perfect way. In the real way. The muddy way. The way where you get home wrecked and happy and already planning the next one.
Why This Exists
If you’ve ever tried to find a good walk with your dog a proper one, not just a lap of the local park you know the frustration. Can dogs go off-lead? Is there parking? Will there be livestock? Is it actually worth the drive? The answers are scattered across forums, buried in outdated blog posts, or just not there at all.
I got tired of guessing. So I started mapping every dog-friendly walk, trail, beach, forest, and mountain path I could find. County by county. Trail by trail. With the kind of detail I wished someone had given me before I drove an hour to find a locked gate and a “no dogs” sign.
That research became this. Tails Trails Treks a place where every dog owner can find their next adventure without the guesswork.
Every dog deserves more than the same loop around the same field. And every owner deserves to know exactly what they’re walking into before they get there.
Meet the Team
Every trail on this site gets tested by the same two-dog quality assurance department. They take their roles very seriously. Mostly.
🐾 WillowThe explorer. First into every river, first up every hill, first to find the one muddy patch on an otherwise dry trail. If there’s an adventure to be had, Willow’s already halfway through it.
🐾 BellaThe steady one. Bella walks at your pace, checks in when the path splits, and somehow always knows which way is home. She’s the reason we’ve never stayed lost for long.
Between them, they’ve road-tested trails across Ireland in every season and every kind of weather this island throws at you. If a walk makes it onto this site, Willow and Bella have been there first.
What You’ll Find Here
Tails Trails Treks is built around one idea: make it easy for dog owners to get outside and explore. Here’s what that looks like in practice.
- 📍Location Guides Detailed, honest guides to dog-friendly walks, trails, beaches, and forests with parking info, terrain details, lead rules, and everything you actually need to know before you go.
- 🥾 Trail Stories Real accounts from real walks. The good ones, the wet ones, the ones where Willow vanished into a hedge and came back with half a tree. If we walked it, we’ll tell you what it was actually like.
- 🐕 Dog-First Advice Training tips for outdoor dogs, breed-specific trail guides, safety advice for mountains and coastlines, and everything a dog owner needs to hike confidently with their best mate.
- 🗺️County-by-County Coverage We’re mapping every corner of Ireland first all 32 counties and then expanding outward. Isle of Man, England, Scotland, Wales, and beyond. The goal is global, but the roots are right here.
Where This Is Going
Right now, Tails Trails Treks lives in Ireland. It starts in Carlow because that’s home and spreads outward across every county on this island. But the structure behind this site is built for more than Ireland.
The plan is simple: build the most comprehensive, most trusted dog-friendly outdoor resource in every country we reach. Ireland first. Then the Isle of Man. Then across the water to England, Scotland, and Wales. And eventually, wherever there are trails worth walking and dogs who deserve to walk them.
That’s not a ten-year fantasy. That’s the architecture this site is built on. Every guide we publish today fits into a structure that scales across the world.
But none of it matters without you. A guide only works if real people use it, test it, and come back to say “you were right about that beach” or “that forest path was incredible.” This isn’t a one-way broadcast. It’s a community in the making.
We’re not building a website. We’re building the go-to resource for every dog owner in the world who’d rather be outside.
Come Walk With Us
If you’re the kind of person who measures a good weekend by how much mud is on your boots and how tired your dog is on the drive home you’re in the right place.
New guides and trail stories are coming every week. We’re starting with Ireland’s best-kept secrets the trails the locals know but nobody’s written up properly and working outward from there.
Welcome to the pack. Willow and Bella are glad you’re here. Willow’s already heading for the trailhead. Bella will wait for you to catch up.
